THE WOLF, according to old beliefs, is a creation of the Devil, but its spirit has been given by God. Skolt Sámi folklore calls the wolf "God’s Dog" that killed the deer created for man, and was consequently doomed to eternal condemnation. It was believed that the wolf could cast spells on the herder and his dog to doze off while watching the reindeer. When making contact with the spirits, the shaman sometimes even wore a wolf-skin cloak. Design Juha Janger (based on folklore)
